Salt & Silicon Manifesto

Taste is a scar.
A thousand bad decisions, slowly hardening into judgment.

Every founder had it once. Then they hired a committee.

Iron age forge and anvil — ancient craftsmanship as metaphor for taste built through practice

Salt — The Human Element

Salt is what your body makes when you work. The oldest mineral technology humans ever used. Before bronze. Before writing. Salt preserved the meat that kept the village alive through winter. Salt healed the wound. Salt sealed the deal. The Romans paid their armies in it. That is where the word salary comes from. You were worth your salt or you were not.

Silicon — The New Technology

Silicon is the newest technology. It runs everything now. Your phone, your hospital, your bank, the algorithm deciding which version of this sentence you read. Silicon processes. It does not care. It calculates at a speed no human will ever match, and it has never once in the history of computation given a damn fuck about what it calculated.

Ten thousand years of civilisation sitting on either side of an ampersand. We are in that ampersand.

Why We Left

We spent ten years inside systems that promised everything and delivered ego and process. Blockchain built casinos. The UN filed empty reports. Corporate SaaS marketing built dashboards that nobody read, glowing lights in empty offices, where everyone in the room knew it, but nobody said a word, because the numbers were the only language left.

We were tired of being told that speed is a virtue when really, speed without direction is just expensive panic.

So we left.

Taste and the Limits of Technology

The gap between good and forgettable has nothing to do with tools. Everyone has the same ones. What separates the two is the person deciding what to make, what to say, and what to leave out - before the thousand options become a thousand regrets.

Technology is a blessing. We use it every day, hard, without apology. We also know where it ends. It ends at taste. The difference between a brand that lasts and one that gets optimised out of existence is someone willing to say that one, because it is true, and truth is a frequency machines do not receive.

Federico Faggin

Consciousness is not a computation. It is an inherent property of reality that machines cannot replicate.

Federico Faggin

We also know the gravitational pull of bullshit is stronger than any vow of purity. The incentives to cut corners are real. So we designed structures that make it harder for us to fall into the same traps we diagnose in others.

Salt is the human side.

Parameters Experience, doubt, instinct, intuition.

Silicon is the structure.

Systems Speed, scale, simulations, systems.

Our Studio — Salt & Silicon

We named our studio after the tension because we live inside it.
